Hello all,
just to let you all know, there may still be slight changes to the scores and Willa will reupload the scores if it's such a case. Therefore, please check this blog regularly for updates. :)
As for the recordings from SLs, it may not come as soon so start practising if you have the time and don't wait till we upload the recordings. Sorry if it's a long delay but we will try our best to get it out soon!

hello everyone! :D

one more week to mbs performance, i hope all of you are excited about it! in the week to come, rest well, drink more water and please don't fall sick! prac hard, and keep the stamina going (:
don't forget we will be having cca on tuesday and thursday (0900-1200) and thursday is a full dress rehearsal, so please bring your long sleeved collared black shirts, black pants and court shoes (plain black shoes for guys).
also, cca on saturday will begin at 0930 and lunch will be provided! the bus to mbs will then come at 1530 and we will have our sound check and arrange the seating positions. the actual event will be from 1800-1820 and 1840-1900 since we will be playing two sets of the same pieces. the bus will then bring us back to hwachong at 1930 (:
do ask your family and friends down to support if they are free!

after the mbs performance, we will be starting to practice for openhouse and our concert next year. so far two songs have been confirmed which are Anitra's Dance and La Cumparsita, the scores have been scanned in to facilitate your practice at home :D
those who are not performing for mbs can already start practicing for these songs to facilitate cca practices in future.
a recorded version of the pieces by the SLs will be uploaded as soon as possible so that you all have an idea of what the song should sound like.

Hello, it's me, with the urge to post a random (but somewhat relevant post) :D

I was reading Time Magazine issue on Tiger Mum (this is random too) & came across something which I thought I should blog here :D

"It's virtually impossible to become proficient at a mental task without extensive practice, if you repeat the same task again and again, it will eventually become automatic. You brain will literally change so that you can complete the task without thinking about it" (Daniel Willingham, professor at the University of Virginia)

Once this happens, the brain has made mental space for higher-order operations: for interpreting literary works, say, and not simply decoding their words; for exploring the emotional content of a piece of music, and not just playing the notes.

So this is the purpose for our daily practices! :D

SO J2S WE SHOULD ALL TREAT OUR MORNING PRACTICES (AND OTHER PRACTICES) WITH UTMOST IMPORTANCE AND PRACTISE DILIGENTLY ALRIGHT? :D

Hello J1s and J2s! This is Hwee Ming :D SYF is about 40++ days away :O

Since Mei Na is busy, I shall help her to announce this on the blog. Before that, I would like to make it clear that SYF is not a game. It is a national competition. The title we get will stay with us for 2 whole years until the next SYF and will affect our CCA status. So I hope that all of you can take it serious. I only demand for 40 days of your life. All of us wants a gold, don't we? So please trust that all that we are doing in the next 40 days aren't something that I put in place to torture all of you.

J2s: We have come so far since J1 crazily performing for Windworks and for Harmonica De Cantabile please hang on for 40 more days, I ensure you everything will be worth it. I am willing to spend my time typing this because I want the best for the band so please prioritise your activities.

J1s: It might be so tedious for you to learn and perform in 40 days but please trust yourself and trust the band. We will help you in every way you need. Please give us your fullest support. We just need you to turn up for the consecutive practices and practise yourself whenever you can. It might be stress for all of you but we understand. Please help us to fulfil our goal and give your seniors of the 3 different batches something to be proud of.

Practice dates: A calendar of practise dates will be posted here by Monday. Please come back to check on Sunday night.

J2s: Please send Xin Yi the time you are free on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Morning practices will start at 6 45. Monday at the terrences, Tuesdays and Thursday outside auditorium. Report at 7 at the tennis court on first March, Tuesday to go for the rehearsal. Anyone with video recorder please tell me because we need it on Tuesday. Please tell me immediately!

J1s: Youwill have compulsory practise on Wednesday 3 - 5, Friday 4 - 6, Saturday 1 - 5. You have to come for practises on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after dismissal until 7. This will only last till mid April, our SYF. Please help us by coming because the seniors stayed back especially for you.

The J1 list will be compiled by Mei Na and sent to all of you by next week. Meanwhile if you have anything, you can SMS me.

Hello all, just a reminder about our practice schedules for the esplanade concert. (:

We will have regular practices on
Wednesdays from 2.30pm to 5.30pm &
Fridays from 4pm to 8.30pm (do remember to order dinner! :D)

Rehearsals at VJC:
1. 22 Nov, 9am to 1pm (Lunch may be provided)
2. 8 Dec, 9am to 3pm (Lunch break from 12 noon to 1pm)

Note: One-way transport will be provided from HC. If there's a need, we can charter for two-way transport (but we have to pay)

22ND DECEMBER IS THE ACTUAL CONCERT DAY! :D
We'll be having a fun time together from 9.30am to about 10.15pm :D

The concert starts at 7pm, and be reminded that we have to sell $100 worth of tickets each.

Meanwhile, other updates:

1. Xin Yi is still settling the designs of harmoc tee. Mr Terng of the PE department disapproved of our current design because he said the shirt can't be black! Must be yellow or white. D: And he said there are too many colours. ):

2. We might be having a harmoc chalet! (YAY :D)

As the term for EXCO '09/10 is coming to an end, we are marking the start of a new beginning! We will be holding our Elections for the new EXCO '10/11 starting next week. All interested J1s, please reading the following carefully:

Open House

Open House this year will be held on 13 January, from 10am to 4pm.

There will be no school that day. However, we will be performing in the Central Plaza twice during the event; hence we will resume practice next week to prepare for the performance. The details are as follow:

Dates: 4 Jan, 6 Jan, 8 Jan, 11 Jan
Time: 9am - 1pm (except 11 Jan - time will be confirmed later)
Venue: Music Room

As per normal, please inform your SL if you are unable to make it for any of the practices. Do not be late! There is also a rehearsal on 12 January but the time has yet to be confirmed.

Besides the performance, we will also be working on the publicity materials for Open House. We have asked for the Music Room to be booked till 6pm, so those who are free are encouraged to stay back after practice to help out :)

We also require all of you to be present to help tend the 'stall' of our CCA on that day itself. The duty roster and more details will be released closer to the date of the event.

Chalet Details

CCA CHALET

Our CCA chalet will be held from 16 - 18 Dec! There will be BBQ on the 17th :)

The nearest MRT station to the chalet would be Pasir Ris. Alternatively, you can get there by any one of these buses:

3, 5, 6, 12, 17, 21, 89, 354, 358

There is a shuttle bus service from Pasir Ris MRT station to the chalet. As check-in is at 2.30pm, you can take the 2.15pm bus. Check the rest of the timetable of the shuttle bus service here.

Contact Si Jia when you have reached and bring any games you like! :)

Please note that you will also have to bring along $1 to pay for the admission pass that is required for you to enter the premises, unless you're an NTUC member.

Our CIP Performance will be held tomorrow at Bukit Batok Home of the Aged. It will start at 9 am and is expected to end by 12 noon.

Transport has been arranged, and the bus will leave by 8.15 am. Please meet outside the Music Room by 8 am tomorrow, in jeans and your faculty T-shirt. Do NOT be late. Do remember to bring along your harmonica and music scores.
